Chuck Norris dedicated himself to his sick wife and even gave up his career to be by her side

Everyone wants their partner to always be by their side – in sorrow and joy. This provides the assurance that they are a true friend, someone you can rely on no matter what. In such moments of life, you truly realize how beloved and dependable your partner is.

American actor and martial arts master Chuck Norris is an example of such a loving and faithful husband. Not only did he stay by his wife’s side when she fell seriously ill, but he even gave up a successful career to care for her and provide support.

The Texas Ranger star shared how their family’s life changed overnight after a routine injection given to his wife in 2013 before an MRI for rheumatoid arthritis. Complications turned out to be more than serious: excruciating neuralgia and kidney problems.

Chuck Norris didn’t hesitate for a moment when it came to choosing between caring for his wife or his career. ‘I gave up my film career to focus on Gena. Now I have only one dream and one goal – to save my beloved. I believe there is nothing more important, so I have never regretted the decision,’ said the 80-year-old actor to Good Health journalists.

Since his wife fell ill, Norris has never left her side. The couple has spent around 2 million dollars on her treatment.

The Texas Ranger star shared how their family’s life changed literally overnight after a routine injection given to his wife in 2013 before an MRI for rheumatoid arthritis.

Reflecting on the medical error that simply erased their previous full life, Gena says that after the first injection, her body felt like it was on fire. She went crazy from pain and couldn’t understand what was happening.

“A few hours after the first injection, it felt like I was… set on fire. With each passing hour, the burning spread over a larger area of skin, and it was hellish. The pain was so intense it felt like being torn apart. This marked the start of the most terrifying period of my life: for 5 months, I lay motionless under drips and prayed to God for one thing—to end this suffering as soon as possible. It didn’t make sense: just recently I was healthy, and now I couldn’t do without round-the-clock medical monitoring and support. All this time, Chuck never left my side. He slept next to me on the couch and listened to every sigh. It was very difficult, very painful. All that was left was to pray, and that’s what I did. I begged God to give me just a few more years to raise our children…” Gena recalls those dreadful days.

Chuck Norris’s wife says that they couldn’t accept for a long time the fact that a harmless injection, given to everyone before an MRI, could cause such complex complications.

When I went for an MRI, I didn’t even allow the thought that for the next 5 months, I would be paralyzed. Because that doesn’t happen! It’s impossible! Not with me! Nevertheless, life is not always fair: very rarely, but such things happen, and this time the wheel of fate pointed at me,” Gena continues.

The situation worsened because doctors did not immediately determine what was happening with Chuck Norris’s wife. They suspected an oncological process, conducted various tests and laboratory studies. Then the version appeared that her symptoms could be related to Parkinson’s disease.

They prescribed one course of treatment after another, but nothing brought relief. And then Gena began to analyze her symptoms independently, remember how it all started, and it dawned on her: everything indicated damage to the body by the metal gadolinium, which is part of the contrast agent injected before an MRI. Soon, doctors at the clinic in Reno, Nevada, confirmed her assumption: it was poisoning.

How absurd and unjust it was simultaneously. I lived a vibrant, full life before the illness, was in excellent physical shape, engaged in sports, ate sensibly, and then – it all came to an end. Disease, the struggle for life, and physical suffering – that’s what the consequences of the injection turned out to be,” laments Gena.

Chuck Norris decided to seek justice and find out what happened to his wife and who was at fault. The renowned actor filed a lawsuit against several medical companies, claiming that the chemical substances used for the MRI were the cause of Gena’s illness.

The family is seeking over 10 million dollars in compensation for damages, asserting that companies should warn patients about possible risks and complications. “What happened to Gena cannot be undone. For the past few years, we have been fighting for her health, and now our task is to ensure that the same does not happen to other patients.

People need to know that contrast agents used for MRIs can be dangerous. It’s not about completely avoiding their use, but doctors are obligated to provide full information,” Norris told The Washington Post.

Gena also emphasizes that they are not seeking revenge but simply want to achieve justice.

It’s just awful and infuriating: doctors are hiding information from patients about contrast agents for MRIs,” she says. “Chuck and I are determined to change this situation,” said the 57-year-old woman, as reported by Hello.

Chuck and Gena Norris got married in 1998 and have two children. By the way, at that time, Chuck, after the breakup of his first marriage that lasted about 30 years, was dating another woman – a young model. But when he saw Gena, he immediately understood that it was fate. He asked his agent to set up a date with her, and soon they started seeing each other. It was love at first sight, and as it turned out, for a lifetime.
