Court named the guilty party in the death of Galina Hutchins: it is not Alec Baldwin

As it became known, the case of Galina Hutchins may soon be closed. On March 6, 2024, a jury reached a verdict after evidence from both sides was presented. It is expected that the guilty party will be sentenced to 18 months of imprisonment. Who bore the wrath of justice and what is known about Alec Baldwin’s fate will be revealed in our material in the next couple of minutes.

The case of Galina Hutchins

On October 21, 2021, during the filming of the western movie «Rust,» a tragic accident occurred resulting in the death of cinematographer Galina Hutchins. The lead actor, Alec Baldwin, was supposed to fire a gun towards the camera lens in one of the scenes. However, instead of dummy rounds, the firearm was loaded with live ammunition. Such an incident could not go unnoticed.

It took over two years for the investigation and all analytical work by experts to be completed. Interestingly, initially Baldwin was let go. However, in January 2024, he was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter regarding the cinematographer’s death. On March 6, it was revealed that the case of Galina Hutchins would soon be fully disclosed, and the guilty parties would face appropriate punishment.

According to the jury’s verdict, it is the film’s prop master, Hanna Gutierrez-Reed, who should be deprived of liberty. She was responsible for the firearms on the set, which should never have been loaded with live ammunition. The 26-year-old woman was acquitted of all charges except for one count of tampering with evidence.

Negligence and irresponsibility

As stated, Gutierrez-Reed could face 18 months of imprisonment. However, she will have to await the sentencing, which is set to occur in April. Until then, she remains in custody. The reason she faces prison time is her involvement in the handling of the firearm that led to the tragic incident. As for Alec Baldwin, the outcome of his legal situation remains uncertain pending further developments in the investigation and trial proceedings.

In reality, all charges against the prop master were centered around her failure to properly fulfill her job duties. Gutierrez-Reed’s attorneys, on the other hand, believed that the prosecutor would not be able to gather enough evidence to accuse Hanna of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Galina Hutchins.

Unfortunately, they were mistaken. The fact is that the 26-year-old woman brought a box of her own ammunition from home to the filming location in New Mexico. Due to negligence and irresponsibility, live rounds got mixed with dummy rounds, which ultimately led to the tragedy. As for Baldwin, he also has to face trial. However, this will only happen in July.
