The third and ‘final’ film ‘Downton Abbey’ is in development,» announced actress Imelda Staunton, who portrayed Lady Maud Bagshaw in the eponymous series, while her spouse, Jim Carter, played the butler, Mr. Carson.
Responding to a question from BBC Radio 2 about reports of another «Downton Abbey» installment coming soon, Staunton replied, «There’s going to be one more film — that’s all.»
«Downton Abbey» aired on ITV from 2010 to 2015, followed by two films in 2019 and 2022, which collectively grossed £225 million worldwide.
According to The Sun newspaper, filming for the new project is set to begin this summer. The newspaper also reported that Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti will return to the cast of the final film.
Giamatti appeared as Harold Levinson in the 2013 Christmas special of the television show.
