Kate Winslet shared her thoughts on filming «absurd» sexual scenes in the new miniseries «Mare of Easttown.»

In the HBO series, the 48-year-old actress played Chancellor Elena Vernem, the authoritarian leader of a fictional European country. As her tyrannical regime begins to crumble, the paranoid Elena appoints disgraced soldier Herbert Zubac (Matias Schnaider) as her new trusted ally, and a romance ensues between them.

In an interview with The Times, the «Titanic» star noted that her indecent sexual scenes with Schnaider «were so much fun to shoot» that at one point the cameraman and makeup artist had to leave the set because they were laughing too much.

«It’s satire,» said Winslet. «Nothing makes sense, and it’s so absurd that all you can do is laugh until you drop.»

She revealed that intimacy coordinators were present on set, but their assistance was rarely needed. Winslet explained that she and Schnaider had established a strong working relationship after previously playing lovers in the 2014 drama «A Little Chaos.»
