Actor Alan Ritchson attempted suicide after becoming a victim of numerous instances of sexual harassment.

«I almost hung myself,» said the actor to Hollywood Reporter, who has appeared in series such as «Blue Mountain State,» «Smallville,» and «Black Mirror,» and is currently starring in the Prime Video movie «Reacher.»

According to him, he did it in the attic of his home in Encino, California, using an extension cord. «It all happened so quickly, I was hanging there,» he recalled. However, at the last minute, Ritchson changed his mind, as he had a vision in which his three sons asked him not to do it.

The 41-year-old Ritchson said he sought help immediately after the alarming incident. At the age of 36, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Several years later, at the age of 40, he learned that he also lives with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).

His suicide attempt occurred after many years of sexual harassment while working in the modeling industry and later in the acting world.

«There is very little dignity in [the modeling] industry. Let’s be honest, it’s like legalized human trafficking for sexual exploitation,» he said. «This industry is unregulated,» he noted.

One incident led the father of three to permanently leave the modeling world. «I was invited to shoot for a very well-known photographer,» he recalled. «I was sent to a hotel room to shoot naked, promising that, after that, he would offer me a very profitable magazine campaign and clothing line. This guy subjected me to sexual violence.»

Later, as he successfully transitioned into the television and film industry, another devastating blow led to a deterioration in his mental health. According to him, after business meetings with a film fund representative, she began to threaten him. «She gave me an ultimatum to come to her room, and said if I didn’t, she would destroy me and tell the media that I raped her,» he said.

Although the threats led to nothing, the actor was devastated by what happened. «I was in super depression and didn’t know how to deal with it,» he explained. Soon after, he attempted suicide.
