«Johnny Depp is eyeing a medieval countryside castle in Italy, hoping to snap it up for $4 million, reports the New York Post.
Depp was shown the Montalto Dora castle by actor Riccardo Scamarcio, who plays the lead role in Depp’s biographical film about artist Amedeo Modigliani.
The fortress, spanning 22,000 square feet and featuring 11 bedrooms and a chapel built in the 15th century, was recently put up for sale after reportedly undergoing an extensive restoration process.
But the mayor of Montalto Dora expressed concerns about Depp buying it. ‘A celebrity buying a historical monument like the Montalto Dora castle would attract a lot of attention to this area, but we’re not sure if it would be the right «economic synergy» for the community,’ Renzo Galletto told the Post. He clarified that the property is being sold privately, and the town with a population of 3,300 will remain ‘absolutely neutral on any property sale.'»
