Britney Spears has reached an agreement with her father more than two years after a court ruling terminated the conservatorship that had granted him control over her life. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed by the pop star’s attorneys or her father.
‘It has been an honor and a privilege to represent and protect Britney Spears,’ said the singer’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, as reported by CNN. ‘While the conservatorship was terminated in November 2021, her desire for freedom has now truly been achieved.’
Her father’s attorney, Alex Weingarten, stated that ‘Jamie is thrilled that this has come to an end.’ ‘Jamie loves his daughter very much and has tirelessly worked to protect her,’ Weingarten said. ‘He wants the best for Britney.’
Spears’ conservatorship was terminated back in November 2021. However, legal battles persist: the singer’s and her father’s lawyers have been sorting out disputes over attorneys’ fees and allegations of misconduct in handling the conservatorship. Her father has consistently denied the allegations.
In 2008, by court order, the star was placed under conservatorship, with her father serving as her conservator for much of the 13-year arrangement, overseeing and controlling all of his adult daughter’s finances and medical decisions.
