In anticipation of the American Film Institute award, the actress reminisced about the beginning of her career.
«Hollywood star Nicole Kidman marks 41 years in the film industry. On Tuesday, April 23, the Oscar winner shared a video on her blog reminiscing about her first role at 14. The 56-year-old actress will soon be honored with the American Film Institute award for her contributions to the genre, with the ceremony taking place on April 27. In the post, she published scenes from the film ‘Bush Christmas’ (1983), where she played Helen Thompson.
‘This 14-year-old girl could never have predicted how many talented people she would have to work with and how many different characters she would have to play. I’m so happy to celebrate this event with so many friends and colleagues on Saturday,’ she wrote in the caption.»
Young Nicole gained fame in the United States just six years after her first role, playing the iconic character Rae Ingram in the film «Dead Calm» (1989). By the way, Kidman is the first Australian actress to receive the AFI Life Achievement Award.
«Nicole Kidman is a powerhouse performer, captivating movie star, and experienced producer, captivating audiences’ imaginations throughout her prolific career, demonstrating complex and versatile performances on screen,» the AFI press release stated.
The actress has worked in various genres with many respected directors, including Jane Campion, Sofia Coppola, Baz Luhrmann, Sydney Pollack, Aaron Sorkin, and Stanley Kubrick. A five-time Academy Award nominee, she received the golden statue in 2003 for her role as Virginia Woolf in Stephen Daldry’s film «The Hours». She was also nominated for her roles in «Moulin Rouge!» (2002), «Rabbit Hole» (2011), «Lion» (2017), and «Being the Ricardos» (2022). She has won a BAFTA Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and six Golden Globe Awards. Kidman recently mentioned how pleasing it is for her to see audiences following her career over decades.
«I started working at 14 and grew up in front of the camera and in front of people, so it really is exposed, but at the same time, it’s my journey,» Kidman said. «I’ve shared my ups and downs with the world, as well as all of my work. That’s been my life… my children, my husband, and my work.»
