The actress shared early memories of working with the Hollywood star in the 1999 drama.
“Elisabeth Moss recounted the first days on the set in 1999, when she had the opportunity to star alongside Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie in the film ‘Girl, Interrupted.’ The 41-year-old actress visited ‘Live with Kelly Ripa’ on SiriusXM and delved into memories of working on the psychological drama.
“There were two camps. There was Winona’s camp and there was Angelina’s camp,” Moss said about the backstage rivalry between the young actresses.”
“She noted that she was afraid of Jolie.
“I’ve talked to Angelina since, and she’s lovely, but at the time, it was just incredibly intimidating,” Moss continued, adding that she never talked about this with the actress herself. “I never brought it up, and I’m sure she has no idea what I’m talking about. I definitely wasn’t cool enough to be in her camp.”
According to Moss, the division happened “off-screen but based on what was on-camera,” referring to the on-screen rivalry between Ryder and Jolie’s characters.
“I was in the Winona camp, and Angelina’s camp was really powerful. They were cool girls,” Elizabeth continued. “I was so scared of the Angelina Jolie camp. I never even had thoughts about being in that camp. It was so cool. All the cool girls were over there.”
In the film, set in the late 1960s, Ryder portrays Susanna Kaysen, an 18-year-old girl who is admitted to a psychiatric hospital after a nervous breakdown. The drama revolves around Susanna and her tumultuous relationships with other patients, including sociopath Lisa and Polly, portrayed by Jolie and Moss, respectively.

Moss recently excited fans of “The Handmaid’s Tale” series when she announced in February at the Television Critics Association press tour that the show is gearing up for the start of filming for a new season.
