Fluffy orphaned babies emerge from a hole in a cemetery looking for help.
As a cat lover and founder of West Side Cat Rescue in Buffalo, New York, Jamie Mulligan is used to receiving messages about stray animals in need.
Recently, Mulligan received a particularly strange message. Several sources told Mulligan that they had seen kittens running loose in a local cemetery, and that some of the kittens had taken refuge in a hole under one of the graves.
Concerned for the kittens, Mulligan went to the scene.
«This cemetery is huge,» a West Side Cat Rescue representative told The Dodo. «Jamie spent a lot of time trying to find them.»
Finally, Mulligan noticed a pair of eyes emerging from the basement.
«When they popped their heads out, Jamie said she was incredibly relieved,» said the rep.
Mulligan began coaxing the kittens with treats, tempting them out of the hole. Slowly but surely, she got them safely into a carrier.
The kittens, now named Lydia and Huber, are becoming a little more confident every day. Soon, they will continue their journey alongside a new permanent family.
«Now that they’re safe, they’re starting to open up and seem happy and content,» said the representative. «We will adopt them together, in pairs, as they are so close l»
