The actor became wealthy and famous, but it doesn’t make him happy.
Anthony Hopkins won an Oscar for his role as Hannibal Lecter in ‘The Silence of the Lambs,’ and after that, the actor’s career took a sharp rise. But the legendary actor has regretted his subsequent projects involving the charismatic cannibalistic maniac several times.
The Silence of the Lambs’ became the third film in history to win the ‘big five’ at the Oscars, taking awards not only for Best Actor but also for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Screenplay. However, looking back, Hopkins concludes that such success did not benefit him personally.
With such a list of accolades, the release of sequels was inevitable, but Anthony suspected something was wrong when he learned that Julianne Moore replaced Jodie Foster. At that moment, the actor considered turning down the role—especially since the plot could have justified significant plastic surgeries on Hannibal’s face—but Ridley Scott convinced him otherwise. In vain.
Disappointed with the sequels, which brought him good money but did not please him in terms of film quality, Hopkins admitted in one of his rare interviews that he would never agree to star in a new ‘Hannibal’ sequel.
‘I did it once. Made a mistake by doing it twice. Then thrice. I don’t want to do it again, these films are done,’ the actor lamented in an interview with The Wrap.
Sylvester Stallone, on the other hand, is not afraid of long-running franchises and the wrath of professional critics. Sly considers his favorite film to be the one that experts trashed.
