A cat was surrendered to a shelter because of its love for sitting on its owner’s lap, but it found a new family.

Why does an ordinary person need a cat in their home? That’s right, to love it, to pet it, to hold it in their arms, to cuddle, to feel its warmth and comfort, and to hear its purring. And if the cat reciprocates this affection to its owner, then that’s the perfect combination.

But it turns out not everyone shares this belief. This plump orange beauty named Jacques from Montreal (Canada) was given to the local shelter “Michigan Cat Rescue” by his own owners, who explained their decision by saying that the cat was too needy, too dependent on their attention, and especially loved to sit on their laps.

“All Jacques wanted was to sit in a warm spot on his owner’s body. But they didn’t want that. They didn’t want to cuddle with him and didn’t want a cat like that in their home,” said one of the staff members at “Michigan Cat Rescue.”

Jacques spent a whole year in the shelter without being able to find a new family. Even in the shelter, Jacques desperately sought human interaction and was always ready to curl up on the laps of the staff.

In an effort to find Jacques new owners, the shelter staff decided to run a campaign on their Facebook page. They posted photos and Jacques’ story, mentioning that he was very affectionate and gentle, which is why he didn’t suit his previous owners.

The reaction from users was swift. People were shocked and outraged that someone could give up a cat for such a reason.

“A giant orange cat who loves to sit on laps and cuddle? It seems like my dream has come true!”

“Who the hell in their right mind would refuse a cat that loves to sit on laps?”

“If this cat loves to sleep on laps, then that’s exactly what I’m looking for!”

The post received over 1,200 comments and garnered more than 2,600 likes. People wished Jacques would find a new family soon and offered themselves as his new owners.

Two weeks later, the shelter staff finally chose a new owner for Jacques, a woman named Liz. She and her family came to the shelter for a cat and immediately picked him up. Jacques happily sat on Liz’s lap, cuddling with her and purring loudly.

Then Jacques also sweetly settled onto the lap of Liz’s husband.

“Finally, our sweet and spoiled kitty found a new home. Now he lives with Liz and her family, and we are all very happy for him.”

In his new home, Jacques settled in very quickly and even made friends with another cat. He also loved to sit in the arms of Liz’s 3-year-old grandson, who adores his new pet. He even gave the cat a new name and calls him Joe.
