Demi Moore Shocked Fans with Creepy Footage from the Set of “The Substance”

The actress shared unique behind-the-scenes footage from the set of her latest body horror film.

On Thursday, October 31, Demi Moore piqued fans’ interest in her body horror movie *The Substance* by posting a series of eerie shots from the set, where she appears in frightening makeup. Demi strategically saved this post for Halloween to reveal genuinely terrifying images: the Hollywood brunette was unrecognizable in her costume, which featured loose, wrinkled skin, blood smears, and incredible wrinkles. The thriller tells the story of Moore’s character, Elizabeth Sparkle, a TV aerobics star fired on her 50th birthday. In pursuit of youth, Elizabeth starts injecting herself with a substance available on the black market, transforming her into a younger version of herself, played by Margaret Qualley. The horror film has garnered rave reviews since its premiere in September, grossing over $41 million.

> “I’ve been holding onto these treasures, and today feels like the perfect day to share them,” Demi captioned. “Happy Halloween from Elizabeth Sparkle.”

In September, Moore told CBS she strongly relates to her character, given her own immense fame in the ’80s and ’90s and the extreme beauty standards that young women were held to at the time.

> “I put so much pressure on myself,” she told the interviewer. “There were times when I was told to lose weight. It was shameful and humiliating, but it’s what I did to myself. I feel enormous compassion for that frightened little girl I actually was, even though I never showed it to anyone. If I could go back, I’d hug her and say, ‘It’s okay.’”

The 61-year-old actress openly discusses aging online but admits that she oscillates between self-assurance and self-critique.

“Sometimes I look and think, ‘Wow, this is pretty good.’ Other times, I catch myself analyzing and focusing too much on the flaws in my body. The difference now is that I can rein myself in. I can say, ‘Yes, I don’t like this sagging skin. But, you know, it is what it is. So, I’ll make the most of what I have and stop harping on what I can’t change.’”

The *Ghost* star has always been an emblem of courage for women in Hollywood: she famously shaved her head for her role in the 1997 film *G.I. Jane* and portrayed a single mother in the scandalous film *Striptease*.
