A stray cat gave birth to kittens in the barn.
Everything seems trivial until you look closely at their eyes. Four kittens were born in a cozy barn, where their mother was rescued by a caring woman. The kittens were adorable and clearly had the genes of a cat with floppy ears. Over time, the kittens developed visible health issues. Neither the woman who adopted the cat and her babies, nor we, nor even the veterinarians knew what had caused the illness.
The doctors suggested that the illness could be the result of both an intrauterine infection and an infection acquired after birth. The condition of two of the four kittens was particularly alarming; their photos were simply horrifying. Severe damage to their eyes was clearly visible, and it raised questions about why the babies were still alive. The infection had already irreversibly damaged the kittens’ vision, but it could subsequently reach the brain and lead to death. Therefore, it was decided to urgently save the kittens.
The world for these kittens lost its colors and images; it became a collection of sounds, smells, and touches. The kittens will never see the world around them, but at the same time, the lack of vision will not prevent them from living fully and being loved.
Their lives can be happy, and it is for this happiness that we will do everything possible to save their lives. The other two kittens were not so severely injured. The ophthalmologist examined them and found damage to their eyeballs, but appropriate treatment could eliminate those issues.
