Nicole Kidman has revealed that she didn’t shy away from the erotic scenes in the Babygirl thriller; on the contrary, she was excited to portray her character in a new light and become part of the heroine’s story, reports Daily Mail.
The 57-year-old actress will appear on The Graham Norton Show on Friday evening, where she will be joined by Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, actor James Norton, comedian Chris McCausland, and singer Benson Boone.
During the talk-show, Nicole promotes her upcoming film Babygirl, in which she plays a married woman who embarks on an intense romance with a young intern, portrayed by 28-year-old Harris Dickinson.
When asked about her role, which includes erotic and intimate scenes, she insisted that it didn’t bother her. The Oscar-winning actress described the film as “strange, but in a good way,” and said it appealed to her because it gives a voice to women.
“Many films in this genre that we’ve seen in the ’90s came from a male perspective, but this is different; it’s told from a woman’s point of view.”
When host Graham asked if she ever hesitated to take on such intimate scenes, Nicole explained that she was only excited because she always strives to step out of her “comfort zone.” She responded, “No. I liked the script, I love supporting women in the industry, and the film was really good. It’s emotional and bold, and I always strive to step out of my comfort zone.”
Throughout her 40-year Hollywood career, Nicole has never been afraid to push boundaries. As is well known, she starred in a sexual scene with her then-husband, Tom Cruise, in the 1999 film Eyes Wide Shut.
Writer and director Halina Reijn explained that Babygirl was inspired by the sexual thrillers Basic Instinct starring Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas, and tells the story of a woman who has never experienced sexual pleasure during her 25-year marriage.
