Kim Kardashian has called on California’s governor to increase the pay for incarcerated firefighters.

Kim Kardashian has urged California Governor Gavin Newsom to increase the pay for incarcerated firefighters who are battling the destructive fires in Los Angeles.

“Hundreds of incarcerated firefighters in all five of Los Angeles’ fires are risking their lives to save us,” she wrote on Instagram.

“They work 24-hour shifts. They are paid almost nothing, they risk their lives, some die, just to prove to society that they have changed and are now rescuers. I consider them heroes.”

According to her, incarcerated firefighters are paid just $1 per hour for “risking their lives,” and this rate has remained unchanged since 1984.

“It has never been increased due to inflation. It has never been raised as the fires have gotten stronger and many lives have been lost,” she said.

The 44-year-old Kardashian mentioned that a recent agreement was made to raise the pay of incarcerated firefighters to $5 per hour, “but it was rejected at the last moment.”

“I am urging [Newsom] to do what no governor has ever done and raise the pay of incarcerated firefighters to a rate that honors the person who puts their life on the line to save ours and our homes,” she said.

Kardashian also thanked the Ventura Training Center firefighters, which had previously offered additional rehabilitative and job training skills to help incarcerated firefighters qualify for entry-level firefighter positions.

The founder of Skims and other members of her famous family, including Kourtney Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Rob Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, and Kris Jenner, were forced to evacuate their homes due to the fires.

Though the Kardashians left the area, they returned and donated food from Carousel restaurant to “numerous fire stations” in Los Angeles.

Additionally, Kim’s Skims lingerie brand donated clothing and other essentials to families affected by the wildfires.
