Bill Gates’ Children to Inherit “Less Than 1 Percent” of His $101.2 Billion Fortune

Bill Gates’ Children to Inherit “Less Than 1 Percent” of His Vast Fortune After His Death

Bill Gates’ three children — 28-year-old daughter Jennifer Gates, 25-year-old son Rory Gates, and 22-year-old daughter Phoebe Gates — will inherit less than 1 percent of his unimaginable wealth, reports Page Six.

According to Forbes, the Microsoft co-founder’s current net worth stands at $101.2 billion, meaning that even 1 percent of that total still exceeds $1 billion.

In a podcast with Raj Shamani, the host asked Gates what he believed was the “right mindset” for parents when it comes to inheritance.

“I think each person has to decide that for themselves,” Gates replied. “In my case, my kids have had a great education and upbringing, but [they will receive] less than 1 percent of the total wealth because I decided it wouldn’t be a favor to them. This isn’t a dynasty. I’m not asking them to run Microsoft.

I want to give them a chance to have their own income and success, to be significant without being overshadowed by the incredible luck and fortune I had.”

Shamani then asked whether Gates’ children had ever expressed disappointment that the bulk of his billions wouldn’t end up in their accounts.

“You never want your kids to feel embarrassed by your support or love for them,” Bill explained. “I think laying out your philosophy early on means that you treat them all equally and give them incredible opportunities — but the highest calling of these resources is to give them to those most in need through the foundation.”

He added that his children “have seen the success of the [philanthropic] foundation,” and he hopes “they’re very proud of that.”
