What cocktail did Michelle Obama’s husband, Barack Obama, introduce her to?

Michelle Obama enjoys strong, neat drinks. The former First Lady discussed her favorite cocktail on the iHeartRadio Work in Progress podcast.

According to People, she mentioned that she prefers a “vodka martini, dry,” served “very cold” with olives, and “almost no vermouth.”

“The olives aren’t that bad when you’re hungry,” she added.

But Obama didn’t fall in love with this cocktail by chance. In fact, it was her husband, former U.S. President Barack Obama, who introduced her to it during one of their first dates.

“Barack introduced me to this drink,” Obama shared. “I didn’t drink alcohol until I started dating him, and then he ordered a martini on one of our first dates, and I thought, ‘Oh, he’s so sophisticated.'”

Michelle also mentioned that she’s not a big fan of caffeine and doesn’t incorporate a cup of coffee into her morning routine.

She explained that she “doesn’t need caffeine,” but she won’t turn down a diet soda if she needs a little energy boost before a speech or event, as she “can’t drink a whole cup” of it.

“I don’t really need caffeine or sugar, I don’t feel tired in the morning,” she says, adding that sometimes she may have tea with honey.
